SUNSET — Two construction workers were killed when a multi-story dwelling collapsed during a thunderstorm on Thursday, according to reports from Pickens County EMS.

Authorities said a 911 call alerted them to a “possible structure collapse” at a residence on Water Lake Drive in Sunset.

But along the way, officials said the responding rescue personel ran into downed trees as well as live power lines across the roadway. Chainsaws had to be utilized to clear the roads before reaching the construction site, they said.

According to reports, upon arrival at the scene, responders found the construction site had partially collapsed. Two people were transported to area hospitals for treatment and two others were pronounced dead at the scene, they said.

As of the writing of this article, the conditions of the injured crew has not been released, nor has the identity of the two deceased.
